Battery Value Chain Studies
Afrionics Energy Ltd was invited to participate in this complex project as part of a consortium of six consultancies (battery value chains, green hydrogen, wind energy, solar energy, power electronics, and energy economics/policy). The consortium worked with the client to develop the terms of reference (TORs) for the project. Afrionics Energy Ltd’s part of the assignment (battery value chains) included stakeholder mapping and engagement, developing business cases from mining of critical minerals to end-of-life battery recycling, and writing the final report. The work demanded an in-depth understanding of core engineering processes, critical minerals, refining, precursor production, cell manufacturing, battery assembly, second-life, recycling, regional value chains, key drivers of profitability, feasibility assessment, interviews of about 100 key value chain actors, battery standards, used battery collection / extended producer responsibility, and the Basel Convention for battery transportation.
